C.G. CONN Dual Tone - Chu Berry (Serial Number: 212054) Back to model

This is a vintage C. G. Conn "Dual Tone" Alto Saxophone, serial number 212054.  This is an amazing looking horn, standing at nearly 99% original satin silver plating.  The horn also features gold plated keys, and gold plating on the inside of the engraving.  These were special order horns available from Conn during the late 1920's.

This horn is an awesome player, with a dark sound.  You can literally feel the horn vibrating under your fingers.  It has a solid center, and retains a full resonance from low Bb up through the altissimo.  The gold plated keys on the satin silver body offer a nice contrast.  The sound is overall dark, and but it gets some brighter overtones in the higher register, making this horn seem bright, yet dark at the same time.  It has an extremely complex sound that is hard to put into words.

This Alto features all the usual Chu Berry standards: rolled tone holes, fingernail file G#, trill G#, split bell keys, and the turner style neck.  As you can see from the pictures the horn is in immaculate shape, and the guys at Saxquest did an incredible job overhauling this horn back in 2007.
