Norm Lewis, seen as Caiaphas in NBC’s Jesus Christ Superstar opposite John Legend, received Tony, Drama Desk, Drama League, and Outer Critics Circle award nominations as Porgy in the 2012 revival of Gershwin’s classic Porgy and Bess opposite Audra MacDonald, In 2014 he made history and earned rave reviews when he joined Broadway’s longest running musical, The Phantom of the Opera, becoming the first ever African-American actor to play the title role of the Phantom on Broadway. The New York Times said of his performance of Music of the Night, the Phantom’s signature song: “his lustrous voice comes booming down from the heavens”.


Other recent credits include Harold Hill in The Music Man at The Kennedy Center, the hit Broadway revival of Once On This Island,  Lewis has performed in some of the most prestigious concert halls in the country including Lincoln Center and Carnegie Hall. He is also a favorite at The Muny having played Javert in Les Miserables at St. Louis’ outdoor theater. His television credits include Chicago Med, Gotham, The Blacklist, Blue Bloods, as well as in his recurring role as Senator Edison Davis on the hit drama Scandal.
