Where to get overhaul done?

Hi - I've purchased a 1926 silver Buescher True-Tone Alto sax and figure it'll need an overhaul when it gets here. Frankly, I purchased it because I'm dying to know if a vintage horn is really different than a newer one :*) Curiosity killed the cat, they say. It's actually for my 15-year old son who is currently playing a Selmer A300 (Jazz and classical) and I thought it'd be interesting to try something different. So, question is, where do I go to get an overhaul of such an item? Should I just take it to the shop that does my regular sax repair work, or as I'm assuming, should I take (or send it) to a specialist? I'm in the St. Louis area if anyone can recommend anyplace in the area. Thanks!

It seems to me that you should take it to the place where you posted this thread.

Are you satisfied with your current repair shop? Do they do good work? Have you asked whether they have experience with vintage horns, whether they enjoy the experience of working with vintage horns? My first step would be to talk with the shop where I currently do business, to try to get the lay of the land. If they say, "We're really backed up right now, and it will take about six months..." I'd pass, and send it in to "Tenor Madness," the tab at the top of this page. If they say, "Wow! A vintage Buscher! I'd like to get on that! Great horn!" then give them a shot.

Hi - thanks for the advice. I have a feeling the place I am going to doesn't work on too many vintage horns as they do mostly school equipment, but I'll ask. I also just figured out that Saxquest is here in St. Louis (didn't realize that until I dug around the website as it's not on the front page), so I'm hoping I can take the sax to them directly and get some advice on how to proceed with any necessary work.

i got my hands on a 31ish truetone bari... well its not mine... yet. but when i get it its gonna need a serious bit of work. theres a huge dent at the top of the crook, and the side Bb key is so horrendously bent up, it looks like a snake! these truetones are great horns though.
