An old sax

Hi All, first time on this site. I have recently been given a silver tenor sax from a departed friend and am having a lot of trouble tracing the age and history. Its a Silver Tenor Sax with the serial number 8982 below the thumb rest. There is no other markings on the sax to identify the make. It has pearl keys with black rollers. The inner horn colour is silver and the pads are brown leather with a silver plate and screw for attachment. There is a creast on the bell with the name P CARABOTT VALETTA MALTA. I think it may be a Buecher true tone but am not sure. The local music shop thinks it may be a non specific military band sax in an unusual cord but I am not convinced ! Please can anyone throw some light on this sax for me as would be truely grateful.
