Neck Problems

I am currently not able to play for a few months which is killing me. I believe I am having a neck problem and as a result am having elbow pain with numbness in my hand. Wok from a Chiroprator on my neck reallly helped. Arm specialist has injected elbow and shoulder with cortisome. Am to rest is with little or now playing. Have always used a neck strap. (BG) Have been reseaching harnesses. Any suggestions. Been looking at BG, Slider Dual Shoulder strap and the Smart Strap. Female who plays tenor. Play with sax on side usually in sitting position. Need something that will fit and can be adjusted easily. Is there anyway to place the horn on a stand and play?

    Re: Neck Problems

I just got a BG harness recently and absolutely love it. I switch between soprano, alto, and tenor, (not too much bari) and the sliders work very smoothly when adjusting between horns. I leave it all clipped together and put it on like I would a shirt, but it comes apart in places if you can't extend both arms at once to put it on initially. I used to use a different harness (can't remember the brand) and I thought it was the coolest thing until I got the BG. The BG just operates more smoothly. I'm pretty sure they come in different sizes. And despite the horror stories I've heard abot wwbw.com, I got mine from there along with a bunch of other gear (accessories - not horns) without any problem whatsoever. I've got a stand for my bari that lets me play sitting from a stand instead of from my neck, but it wouldn't work for smaller horns as the metal brace is quite large. I remember seeing a sitting-stand for alto/tenor, but I'm unable to locate where on the web I came across it. Sorry. You might be able to Google your way around to find it. With the BG putting the weight at your shoulders instead of your neck, you might find that's all you need. And forget the Neoprene neck straps - no matter how wide they are, they still put the weight on your neck. Go for the BG Harness. They're awesome.

      Re: Neck Problems

I really like the Oleg straps. I use the regular neck strap, but there are also harnesses. Whenever something's made by Oleg, it's just about the best you can get. You use a harness for a soprano? That's quite unusual. But I guess if you use it for other horns, you might as well use it for that. WWBW has the Oleg straps. What I've found with WWBW, it that they aren't a problem unless you buy horns from them. The other stuff goes quite smooth. If you do get an Oleg and from WWBW, be sure you get one from the old stock, the newer stock's leather isn't quite as soft. All of their stuff is leather, not cloth.
