Re: Any recommendations for A mouthpiece?
As an eight-grader, your best bet is a Meyer 5M, or 6M hard-rubber mouthpiece. Part of the equation in saxophone playing is the ligature. You will be better off with a Rovner ligature as it allows the reed to vibrate more fully. I would not recommend a metal mouthpiece, yet. And Jody Jazz, though a good mouthpiece, has its own inconsistencies (problems). A meyer mouthpiece can easily be modified (souped-up) to play up to world-class standards. Don't throw your money away. Be smart, get yourself a good private teacher and PRACTICE ALOT!
Best Wishes
Robert
P.S. If you like, I can give you the name of the person who modifies the mouthpieces for the pros.
