Mouth Piece Care

How do people, I am looking for advise a friend of mine (a fellow sax player) who has not cleaned his mouth piece for about 4 years recently discovered maggots inside of it , bad? yes, any advise, comments.

    ew dude..if hes not completely nerotic (sp?) id boil the hell out of that thing or clean it with rubbing alcohol.. but im a spaz so id get rid of it.. i wash mine out at a sink with semi warm water after i use it..

    Does your friend have any intonation problems when he plays that mouthpiece?

    I"d tell him to be careful when he tries to suck excessive saliva out of the piece. He may need the Heimlich manuever.

          hes full of crap - maggots cant grow on nothing, they need meat. And you should use cold water only.

          I think we all agree though, the piont is still the same. Even if it's just wiping it off with a cloth, CLEAN IT OUT!!!
