First, take a visit to www.copyright.gov - it will have answers to just about all of your questions. It costs $30 per submission. You can choose to submit an entire group of songs in one submission. That way it only costs you one $35 fee. The downside to this is, should you ever have an opportunity to sell your compositions, you'd want individual copyrights.
