10M thumb rest

I've been thinking about lightly sanding the thumb rest on my 10M to take the crown off, so that it stops digging into my thumb (I've got a small callous). It seems to me that if I can flatten it a little, it will be more comfortable, and I'll also have more leverage against the octive mechanism. My questions are: Does this idea make sense? Has anyone tried this? Will this ruin the motherofpearl? And is there any thing I should use to seal and protect the motherofpearl surface, after it's sanded? Thanks for any opinions.

I don't know anyone who has tried this Fred or what the outcome was. I think you could probably sand down the thumbrest ok. I would finish sand it with a very fine sandpaper, and maybe put some clear fingernail polish over it? Just an idea. Jim

Thanks, JIm. I think I'm going to try it. When I do, I'll post the results.
