jazz theory literature

i'm looking for some excellent books that deal entirely with jazz theory and jazz improvisation. i can't conceive of a book that would be too expensive, so give me anything. thanks a bunch.

Dan Haerle has a nice book called "The Jazz Language" I found it for $16.99 @jazzbooks.com. Some of my improv instructors in college have taught out of this book. It is a great reference for jazz chords, harmony, scales, and chord-scale relationship. Good Luck Tracy
