King Zephyr Alto Saxes

I'm a student Tenor Sax Player that's into Jazz . I was thinking of getting a good alto sax. There's an old "retired" king Zephyr Alto Sax at my school that I was thinking of getting working again. It's in need of a complete rebuild. I've done some simple tuning with it, and It really seems very out of tune, which I think may be the pads or my short mouthpiece. Its high A, which I'd expect to be a little bit out of tune, was over 20 cents sharp, and all notes at and below the low G are really flat. Is it the pads, or is the sax really that bad?

King Zephyrs are great players, when taken care of. Get the pads taken care of, and maybe try another mpc(you said you had a short one) And remember, ALL vintage saxes have intonation quirks, etc, but a good player will easily overcome those!! I play a zephyr as one of my main altos, its a killer horn.
