Having trouble fitting neck into case

Hey, I'm a newish saxophone student and for Christmas my dad got me a new replacement case for an old torn up one that housed my Conn 10m tenor. I'm having a bit of trouble fitting the neck (which I'm guessing due to the age of the saxophone is an older neck shape that's been changed) into the case. It's sticking out quite a bit and the cork is being pushed up into the felt when I close it. I'll attach some pictures
Any advice? I'm hesitant to change the angle because I'd rather put pressure on the cork than the thin metal piece. Am I fine to leave it and let the cork break in its shape, or is there something else I should do?
Thanks,
James

    Do as most players do.

Put your neck into a sock, or rag, or crown royal bag,

and tuck it into the bell of your horn during case storage.

I never use the neck section in my case for a neck.

In fact, I have a leather tobacco bag that holds my mouthpieces I place in the neck slot.

    Merry Xmas!
