The Martin C melody

I have a C melody that I think is a handcraft. How do I know for sure? The serial number is 29xxx. It says The Martin on the bell. It also says low pitch under the serial number. It is in very good condition, although fairly tarnished. I can't find a site that gives me enough info to be sure. Any ideas?
