Selling my tenor: serial number question

I'm getting ready to sell my Conn 30M tenor. I've noticed that many ads do not give the complete serial number; they list something like 306XXX. Why? Is there a downside to the complete number? (I was planning to show a photo of the serial number and other markings anyway.)

The first three numbers are all you need for the age of the horn. Maybe they don't show the whole number for fear someone will take the number and claim it was stolen from them. If you have the bill of sale for your Conn Tenor 30 M, and don't fear someone will claim it was stolen, there should be no problem with showing the entire serial number in the picture or in advertizing it.

Thanks very much!.....I never thought of that angle. I bought the horn 40 years ago and it's sat in closets for the last 38. Naturally, no bill of sale. Wonder if there's anything to worry about? I'd really like to show the serial number photo...it helps to show the lacquer condition as well as document the tenor.
