Pad savers are a good idea in concept but not in practice. Buy yourself a silk sax swab and be sure to swab your sax EVERY TIME after you use it, sometimes even twice. This will eliminate the moisture in the sax. Pad savers will actually hold the moisture against the pads if the sax is not thoroughly swabbed before hand. I have not heard about the fibers comming off but I would believe it. Avoid pad savers, use a silk swab instead.
