I liked the FL brass lig so much, that I bought the silver one as spare and to go brighter; and to tell you the truth I can't hear the difference. It's a super lig though regardless.

Personally I prefer the brass one, but you need to play through all three of them to see which one you like the best.

there's got to be some difference in brightness/darkness of sound right?? and why are the silver and gold an extra $10.00 ??

silver and gold are precious metals. hence, another 10$

yeah, it's not nearly enough for you to notice any difference. Silver and gold are just pretty.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------- and why are the silver and gold an extra $10.00 ?? -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Gratuitous markup. It costs probably less than half that to plate. That is the way of novelty accessories.

          Re: Ultimate Ligatures

the amount of substance used to plate is very little. A ligature that's fully plated probably has no more than a dollar worth of gold on it. gold currently exchanges for about $440 / troy ounce: www.e-gold.com/currentexchange.html

no. It was important to mention that last part w/r/t the cost of pretty ligatures, however.

The SIlver is brighter. That is my perception after playing all 3 plating types. I felt the same after trying this on multiple tenors and different mouthpieces. Some other ligs that I have tried are about as responsive as the FL, but none are more responsive. You guys actually TRIED the different types before forming an opinion???

          Re: Ultimate Ligatures

Yes, and while overall they were very responsive ligs, I did not percieve a difference in sound between the plating choices

I bought my silver FL lig from saxquest about a year and a half ago, sight unseen. Bought into the hype. Sure am glad that I did, its like adding an air intake to your car. The performance upgrade is marginal BUT noticable, and it looks nice. Its still my main lig, not changing (anytime soon, after christmas however $$$).
