Kohlert or Other for "smokey" sound?

I have played alto for many years and my YAS-62 has done well. I am looking for a vintage tenor to play as a hobby. I have been told and by doing a small amount of research to find a Kohlert for the "smokey" sound of R&B which is what I am looking for. I can't find a Kohlert 55 or 57 anywhere, including eBay. Does anyone know where to get one? Is there a easier to find instrument with similar tone? I have been looking on eBay at some Beuscher Aristocrats in the 300-400 price range. That is really all I have to spend. Any ideas? Thank you.

Hi , the 57ers are very difficult to get - try out the regent vks ( 1931 - 1939 ) - really smokey and fat sound - I play one myself , just great

Get yourself an early Conn 6M with rolled tone holes, and a Brilhart Tonelin mouthpiece....That's the ticket!
