Yahama 52

I want to purchase a horn with a matte like finish what would be some affordable ($500range) new or used horns to look for? What setup would be best for the horns?

Agreed barisax999. Have you heard of Cannonball Horns? They seem to play well and come in a variety of finishes, although I'm not sure if they have a matte finish. The subject line here says Yamaha 52 which is a fine horn. I believe I have gone on record, oh just about constantly, in regards to my fondness for them.

i know the cannonballs well, and i dont like them. they are overpriced and do not perform well, in my opnion. especially the excalibur series, straight crap that looks "hip" with its finish. but yes they do matte finishes and unlaquered horns i believe

aye the excalibur and knight horns werent the greatest. the newer global series and stone series are actually being accepted as great horns by people now

You're not going to find much for $500. A new Cannonball will cost you at least $1400. Keep the horn you have for right now. If it needs a few repairs, then get it fixed. Save up for another year or however long it takes, and buy the horn that will last you the rest of your life.
