OTTO LINK Babbitt Current Production STM (1980-)

Current production Otto Link metal mouthpieces are considered by many players to be inferior to the earlier vintage Florida and New York Super Tone Masters that are still out there.  These mouthpiece are all finshed with a machine.  The current production Babbitt Super Tone Masters are still good mouthpieces, and are a great way to see what Super Tone Master mouthpieces are all about.

Charecteristics of Current Production Super Tone Masters:

  • Ridge on top of mouthpiece for ligature
  • Facing number on bottom of shank under U.S.A. stamp
  • NY on bottom of shank opposite of facing number on NY models
  • Super Tone Master and U.S.A. stamps in between two lines
  • Otto Link one screw lig and matching cap

Current production Super Tone Masters tend to be pretty dark, and are still one of the top selling mouthpieces in the world.  The very early models that were made in the early 1980's are a little bit longer than the current models.  Babbitt changed this fairly quickly, switching to a similar length of that found in the Florida vintage STM.  The current production models all have the NY stamp on the bottom of the shank.  Otto Link started doing this in the late 1990's, and it has become the standard on all of their current production pieces.

Babbitt current production Otto Link Super Tone Master mouthpieces come standard with the signature Otto Link one screw ligature, and matching cap.  Recently, within the last 5 years, Otto Link has started issuing the STMs with plastic caps instead of metal.  They also come in a gold box with black lettering.
