MEYER New York USA (-)

The New York USA model mouthpieces by Meyer are very highly sought after mouthpieces as well.  Though they don't command nearly as much money as the earlier vintage New York Meyer Bros. mouthpieces, they still have a tremendous following.  These mouthpieces have tremendous response, and retain a full sound throughout the entire range of the saxophone.

Charecteristics of New York USA:

  • New York USA stamped on shank
  • Small Chamber, Medium Chamber, or Large Chamber stamped on shank
  • Facing number and length stamped in diamond on table
  • Meyer stamp on back of mouthpiece no longer says "Bros."

The vintage New York USA Meyer mouthpieces are still incredibly good playing alto mouthpieces, and the earlier models were very similar to the New York Meyer Bros. mouthpieces.  The inner walls of the mouthpieces were still rounded, but the body of the mouthpiece is thinner, which translates to a slightly edgier and perhaps a bit thinner overall sound. That being said, these mouthpiece feel incredible, and have great response.

The later versions of this mouthpiece can appear to look exactly the same as the earlier version, but are actually quite different.  The inside of the later New York USA mouthpieces have even less of the rounded inner walls resulting in a thinner, slightly smaller sound.  These mouthpieces are still very good, but they lack a little bit of that sound that you would expect from a great vintage Meyer.
